Stillness Book Launch

Stillness is more than just a book; it’s an ode to Japan, a personal travelogue, and an aesthetic manifesto that captures our decade-long exploration of one of the world’s most revered creative cultures. Through its pages, readers are invited to experience our journey of discovery, learning, and inspiration.

For the exhibition accompanying the book launch, we aimed to extend that invitation in a casual yet intimate fashion. Works from a selection of cherished artists and writers were displayed, offering visitors a chance to explore the themes and artistry that have shaped our understanding of Japanese culture.

The space was further elevated by a thoughtful selection of ceramics from artists Viki Weiland, Toseibo, and Hoii Ceramics, each piece echoing the refined simplicity and craftsmanship celebrated in Stillness.

The presence of Japanese Art Historian Malene Wagner added another layer of depth to the event. Her insightful talk on the cultural significance of mingei and its connection to Japonisme offered a rich perspective on the ongoing dialogue between Japanese and Western art and design.

Every detail of the launch was designed to evoke the principles explored in Stillness. The decor—minimal yet thoughtfully arranged—mirrored the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, which celebrates imperfection, simplicity, and the beauty found in the natural cycle of life. The ceramics on display, were not just art objects but manifestations of the philosophy of craftsmanship deeply rooted in Japanese tradition. Each piece, with its unique textures and forms, embodied the quiet dignity of hand-made work, reminding guests of the value of process and intention over perfection.
