For the 2023 Salone Del Mobile in Milan, Japan’s largest wooden furniture manufacturer, Karimoku, presents four of its premium brands in a joint exhibition curated by Norm Architects at the art space Assab One.
Displaying various designs divided by brand in different hospitality and residential settings, the exhibition invites you to interact with it and the furniture within. Delicate materials rooted in Japanese culture, such as a traditional Noren curtain and washi paper, serve as a delicate contrast to the industrial look of Assab One, while also creating an authentic Japanese backdrop for the high-end Karimoku Furniture collections.
All rooted in the DNA of Karimoku Furniture Inc., the four brands on display all exude honest craftsmanship and materials – still, with each their own identity; Karimoku New Standard creates furniture that strike a balance between advanced ideas and high technology; the wooden furniture of Karimoku Case Study has been born out of specific needs for specific projects and has evolved from the architects’ point of view; MAS updates the succinct beauty of domestic coniferous wood; lastly, Ishinomaki Lab. features a DIY philosophy in an exceptional combination with careful craftsmanship.
